Source Prevention

The next steps in successful BMP implementation are to recognize the many management decisions that involve potential contamination of surface waters and groundwater and address course management practices in a systematic fashion.Source prevention BMPs are implemented during golf course operation to prevent or preclude the possibility of movement of sediment, nutrients, or pesticides from the property or from toxic materials being introduced into ecologically sensitive areas. Source prevention BMPs include the use of management zones and the BMPs described in the remainder of the sections of this web site: Irrigation, Facilities, Cultural Practices, and Pests.
